RICHARD SLATER UPGRADES HIMSELF AND RED TO NOVICE B.E LEVEL
Welcome to our new horse "Candle". She has settled in very well and now becoming a very popular ride. She is 16hh Chestnut Irish bred mare and is a real sweetheart! Not seen her yet, she is in box No. 14.
SLATER FAMILY HAVE GREAT TWO WEEKS
warmed up in a dark covered area and went out into light and more exposed
arena which just put Theo slightly on his toes. She ended up 11th and was
the best from area 6 (east Mids) so not too bad at all. Thanks for your
help.
- On Sat Cassie was 6th in an Int ODE (pre-nov). Theo was 2nd in the same class with Pil but Red fell in the water with Rich
.
- Hannah was 6th in the Open (nov) class Oats dressage was ok and showed promise to come down to a
. respectable mark. I thought his general rhythm was much better but he was
rather excited at his first outing at a ODE this year and the others were SJ
only a short distance away. The standard in dressage was quite high with
quite a few in the 20s
- At the Fernie team chase they were 6th in the Intermediate (Why worry
there's hope). Cassie started 4th and finished = 1st. He just got faster and
faster and jumped the turning fences on amazing angles. They were the only
team to go through the really technical bit foot perfect even Red (Humbles
Hollow)! All Sam's training paid off.
Katherine Humphrey becomes the fourth generation of the Humphrey family to hunt with the Quorn
Katherine arrived all excited at 9.30. We tacked up Strawberry then got Katherine ready complete in cream jods, hunt jacket (which was originally Emma's - so approx. 28 years old), & hat. Loaded Strawberry into the lorry and off we went. Katherine had never seen hounds before and was fascinated as they poked their noses through the vents in the horsebox. Katherine got mounted and we hacked off to the meet, with hounds following shortly. She ate a sausage roll in one mouthful, had her photo taken by NottinghamTopic and also with the Huntsman, and generally socialised with the field. They all then hacked off to the first cover with Katherine, led by Sam, in pursuit. After over an hour in the saddle she declared she was tired and retired back to the horsebox.
GEORGE
UPDATE
July 09 - George is back in full work now and getting ready for the hunting season. He is started to jump again, and so far all is well.
Sunday, 5th April - George has been finally turned out to fully recooperate. His leg is just about normal and he is completely sound and is enjoying his freedom from nearly 6 months of confinement.
fri feb 2oth 2009
Georges wound continues to make excellent progress and he is now being turned out in the indoor school on a daily basis
As many of you know George mitten's foal now 5yrs old and showing great promise to be as talented as his mother in the jumping department was badly injured on Bonfire Night .
It would appear that he was frightened by fireworks, fell over and slipped under the electric back fence into the ditch.Trying to get out his back leg became entangled in the electric rope. When we found him next day he had a deep cut on his back leg that had severed a tendon and cut down to the bone.
It was a very severe injury and he spent over a week at Chine house Vet Hostpital. Infection has be the main worry both in the wound and of the bone.
Since he has been home Vicky Humphrey has been looking after his wound. Luckily Vicky is a trained Nurse specializing in wound care.
George had his critical two month check by the vets this week 7 / 01 / 2009 including Xrays of the bone to check for infection.
The vets were very pleased with the way the wound was progressing and have taken him off painkillers and anti-biotics
It's still a long way to go but our thanks go out to vicky humphrey and the vets at Chine house hostpital for their excellent work.
George would like to thank all the well wishers who have asked after him.
JENNA BRADLEY & HENRY AT A RECENT WORKING HUNTER COMPETITION
18/19TH OCT. GOOD WEEKEND FOR BUNNY CLIENTS
GINNY SHERWIN Following her win in the open class at the Atherstone teamchase riding for the cunning stunts they followed up with 2nd place this weekend at the Grafton hunt teamchase.
For those of you who don't know about teamchasing its a national circuit run by the regional hunts. The open classes are run over course approx 2miles in length with 25-30 huge fences.
The teams are of four riders and it is a race against the clock the third member stops the clock. It is very competitve with placings being divided by 100ths of a sec. and falls a plenty hence the third member stops the clock.
JAMES & ROBERT PAVEY Have join a select band of bunny clients who over the years have passed their Equity stunt register riding exam.
This is a very difficlt exam the enterants have to ride the BHSAI standard but also vault on bare back, jump a course of jumps bare back, and ride in formation carrying lances, swords, shields, and wear a jousting helm which restricts their vision.
Look out for their names in years to come on film credits under stunt performers.
JENNA BRADLEY Jenna riding her horse henry came second at her local teamchase. jenna & henry have really come together this season and have beed sucessful in several disiplines.

UNFORTUNATLY EMMA GREW FASTER THAN OATS AND EVENTUALLY OATS WAS SOLD TO HANNAH SLATER. OATS AND HANNAH HAVE GROWN UP TOGETHER AND REPRESENTED THE SOUTH TRENT PONY CLUB IN SHOW JUMPING (ALL THE WAY TO HICKSTEAD).EVENTING AND PENTATHALON.
THE COMBINATION HAVE NOW TAKEN UP TEAMCHASING AND THIS SEASON DECIDED TO TRY THERE HAND IN THE INTERMEDIATE CLASSES OVER SOME FORMIDABLE HEDGES. AS YOU CAN SEE ALTHOUGH THEY WERE BIGGER THAN OATS IT DID'NT BOTHER HIM OR HANNAH

TRIP TO THE ATHERSTONE HUNT POINT TO POINT
A trip was organised for all to the Atherstone Point to Point on Sun 20th of April.
Five car loads desended on the VIP. car park on that cold raw day.Observers could have been mistaken in thinking their sole intention was just eating and drinking, however some of the party ventured out onto the course to watch the action at close quarters by one of the fences, others managed a wager on every race and even came home with money in their pockets.
We had hoped to watch long time Bunny client Becky Mills compete but unfortunatley her horse picked up a knock in training and she had to withdraw. However it was nice that she was able to join us for drinks and a course walk.
A GOOD DAY WAS HAD BY ALL.
PONY CLUB
- The Pony Club centre members are about to take their Bird Watchers Badge.
- They have been going into the fields every Saturday afternoon to birdwatch, but trying to keep them quiet so they didn’t frighten the birds off was a different matter!!
- The next level of riding test is the D badge which will be taken in the summer holidays. So, anyone waiting to take their D badge, please get in touch.
DUCHESS

HUNTING & SOCIALISING TRIP TO IRELAND
A PARTY OF 10 FROM BUNNY HILL TRAVELLED TO KILKENNY FOR A LONG WEEKEND ON THE 28 OF JANUARY.
Landing at shannon on the west coast of ireland after a 50min flight from East Midlands they enjoyed a scenic trip across the centre of ireland before arriving at the Club House Hotel Kilkenny where they were welcomed by owners, the Brennan family, who continue a 200 year history of grand hospitality for hunting parties.
Patricia Brennan is joint master of the Kilmaganny Hunt and both her children (now adult) are keen followers. The trip was timed to coincide with the Kilmaganny hunt ball which was held just down the road in Kilkenny.
The Ball night started with a pre-ball party at the Brennan family home for some 30 or so guests starting at7pm followed by the ball, which started to break up at 3.30am, followed by a post ball bash, again hosted Jim Brennan, that finally concluded just before 6am. Not a night for the faint hearted.
Thankfully Saturday was for recovery, shopping , and only light drinking! before hunting on the Sunday.YES Sunday you can hunt 7 days a week in ireland.
The meet was at Knockroe a wild area of high hills with spectacular views ,fast flowing rivers, formidable drains and banks, and of course the odd BOG!.I was joined by two of our party for hunting Emma Walton & Lisa Davis both mounted on good expeinced hirelings supplied by Seamus Molloy. After a short hack up the we were hunting straight away and carried on with few breaks untill hounds got away from everyone including hunt staff running hard for some 3miles straight.
Leaving the huntsman to gather his hounds on foot the field started the long hack back to the meet. Joining up with the rest of the Bunny party who had followed hounds for some time before lunching in style with and courtesy of Mr Jim Brennan it was more pubs before finishing the evening with Club House Hotel speciality Club House steaks.Perfect end to a wonderful long weekend.
